Home Sweet Home

Today was a day we will not soon forget...we brought home our baby boy Cy. We are so thankful for all of the specialized care that Cy received while at the All Children's Hospital, but there was nothing like having everyone home together happy and healthy.
We haven't yet taken him on the grand tour of his new home because he is still doing what babies do...sleeping. But it is relieving for all of us that we are away from the constant humming and beeping of machines, the tangled mess of heart and IV monitors and the constant hustle and bustle of the nurses and doctors.

In a sense today is our first day as a family...mommy, daddy and Cy. We look forward to this life together and all of the enjoyable moments we will share, but this last week more than anything else we learned to live for today and to make the most of it...We know that this is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.

A few more precious pics!

Introducing Cy Jackson Snyder

Rollercoaster Ride

After a day of long, hard labor Cy Jackson was finally born at 10:30 pm on Thursday, January 24th. As soon as he came out it seemed clear that all was not well...the nurses were having hushed conversations, and the tension in the air rose...they laid Cy on alex for only a few moments, but then they immediately took him to the nursery where he stayed throughout the night. Cy was having a great difficulty breathing on his own and the nurses concluded that he had breathed in muconium (I have no idea how to spell that word.) Muconium is what we would know as a #2. When that happens the lungs are stained with infection and breathing can become difficult if not impossible. However, the nurses seemed confident that he would breathe his way through the problem as the night passed. We were awakened at 7 am on Friday morning when our pediatrician came into the room and began her sentence this way... 'Well your son is not doing so well...' As you can imagine our hearts sank and our stomachs were in knots. She continued to say that a helicopter was on it's way to transport Cy to the children's hospital in St. Petersburg...the prognosis seemed bleak. Twenty minutes later the helicopter arrived and Cy was taken away from us. It was literally one of those moments where our breath was taken away, we felt like we had been kicked in the stomach. Mommy had to stay behind because she wasn't in the best shape herself, but daddy immediately began the hour and a half trip to St. Pete. The whole trip I was expecting the worst. When I arrived at All Children's the nurse said, 'Are you Cy's daddy?' I said, 'Yes, he is mine, tell me what the outlook is...' She said, 'Your son's a turkey! He just wanted to ride in a helicopter. He is going to be fine.' She went on to explain that his breathing had already improved dramatically and the outlook was very good for Cy. I was able to hold him for the next several hours, the nurse said that would be the best way to heal him.
Alex was finally discharged and was able to travel to St. Pete on Saturday afternoon. It was so powerful to see mommy and Cy back together again, it is just what all of us needed. By the time she arrived he had already had his oxygen tube removed, which was a comforting improvement.
We are taking it day by day but it looks like we will be taking our baby boy home in a matter of days. These last few days we were given a blunt reminder that life really is so fragile...we do not take a single moment with him for granted!

You may be wondering how his prognosis improved so quickly and dramatically??? Well, we know already that there were literally hundreds if not thousands of people praying for lil Cy. Also, God allowed him to be under the care of some of the best doctors and nurses in the country at All Children's Hospital...and so we are thankful to them, but we give every ounce of glory to God, Cy's creator, Cy's father, Cy's friend!

Coming Soon to a Hospital Near You!

You may be wondering why we do not yet have pictures of our new baby boy on here since he was due on January 18th. Well, he is a bit of a stubborn fella and doesn't seem interested in coming out of his mommy's belly...can't blame the kid, he can eat, drink and sleep as he pleases without a single ounce of stress or reponsibility. However, he has no choice in the matter, he is coming out one way or another. After our most recent Dr.'s visit we have made the decision that we will check into the hosptial on Wednesday evening to begin the process of induction. If all goes as planned he will make his grand entrance sometime Thursday afternoon or evening. Please pray that all would go as planned and we are able to finally see our lil baby boy.
We look forward to showing you pics as soon as we get him to his new home.

Running out of Patience...

Buddy, seriously you are not cooperating very well with our time table on when you are going to come home. Grandpa Jerre and Great Grandma Norma's birthday's were on December 31st, so we thought that might be your magical day...nope. Then we thought maybe you would be the first baby of the year to be born...nope. So, when will you come?

I am needing to know because mommmy is going crazy. She has done every project you could ever imagine trying to spend your energy and keep her mind pre-occupied, so now you either better come soon or she might go crazy. I suppose God is not done with you yet, so we will continue to wait, if you don't mind, feel free to come a bit early.

But I am going to whip you for making me miss out on that extra tax return by not coming before the end of the year....boy you are being ornery already!

We love you lil one and we will be happy to have you whenever you decide to leave mommy's warm, cuddly belly. Get plenty of rest, there is a big crazy world waiting for you.
